Kim Macedo

Born in Tiruchirappalli, South India.

Baile: When she began her flamenco studies in 1998, Kim was naturally drawn to gypsy flamenco, and began travelling to Spain in an ongoing effort to understand the complexities of this art.

In Canada after an inspiring introductory session with Judith Garcia, Kim continued her studies with Musician/Dancer - Jane Ogilvie, Vancouver based - Oscar Nieto, Spain based - Debra Ibach ,Tomas Arroquero Carlos and Francine Sweet.

In Spain Kim studies dance in Jerez de la Frontera, the cradle of soniquete, with Profesora de bulerias - Ana Maria Lopez, Patricia Ibaniz, Maria Jose Franco, Carmen Herrera, and El Rin (Jose de los Reyes) a Jerez gypsy.

Cante : A long time aficionado of cante, Kim produced and hosted 'Quince Flamenco' her flamenco series with CJSR radio in Edmonton. A series dedicated to the jondo, levante and palo seco styles of song, spotlighting a variety of flamenco greats from Paquera and Terremoto de Jerez to Camaron de la Isla and guitarist Paco de Lucia.

In recent years inspired and encouraged by dancer/cantaora Elysia Donald, Kim branched into cante. She studies cante on an ongoing basis with Jose Mendez, and David Vazquez (Spain).

Kim performed at the Artstart program for inner city youth earlier this year. She is thrilled to share her cante with Silvia Soto and the other talented artists in Flamenco y Ole!
